Basketball Turnovers Analysis & Tracking Case Studies

• End of the Game and the Play-by-play Report

( for English Translation= See Below)

The Most Controversial Basketball Game | USA v USSR | 1972 Munich Olympics
Watch the controversial ending of the 1972 Munich Olympics basketball tournament. U.S.A had won the first 7 Olympic tournaments, and had never lost a single game. USSR however had a team loaded with veterans, while USA had college kids aged 20-23 years old.

This the End of the Game: Any possible  statistical registration and the statistician can´t alter the facts !. The only thing the statistician can do, is tor register the facts in the play-by-play report, including no registration of the Noel´s TO due to the not called Nelson´s foul .

Basketball Turnovers Analysis & Tracking Case Studies

• Turnover & Foul not Called
• Pérdida de Balón y Falta no Cobrada

( para Traducción al Español= Ver a Continuación )

How do you record all this play according to your eBA Basketball Statistics Analysis System:  UNC trails Duke 70-71 with 17 seconds left. Duke has a read on the play UNC is going to run and Raymond Felton, unable to get the ball to Sean May or Rashad McCants picks up his dribble and passes the ball to David Noel, who loses the ball out of bounds pushed by Nelson from Duke.

The points of the question are that the timekeeper failed to stop the clock even the ball landed out of bounds with a good 2.0 seconds still on the clock and last foul from the defender on Noel, causing the turnover...

Duke Clock Error: UNC at Duke 2005
#2 (and eventual National Champion) UNC trails #8 Duke 70-71 with 17 seconds left. Duke has a read on the play UNC is going to run and Raymond Felton, unable to get the ball to Sean May or Rashad McCants (best player in college basketball 2004-2005, btw), picks up his dribble and passes the ball to David Noel, who loses the ball out of bounds.

This video is an example of YET ANOTHER late-game clock error at Duke. Whether or not the ball went off that goober Melchionni is not the point; the point is that the idiotic timekeeper failed to stop the clock even the ball landed out of bounds with a good 2.0 seconds still on the clock!

And no, I'm not bitter. Hansbrough would set things straight and rechristen that dump Hansbrough Indoor the following year and UNC would regroup and learn from that loss to win the national title in 2005 while Reddick and Co. went down in overhyped flames year after year. Wear those ACC Tournament t-shirts and caps with pride, boys!

By the way, notice the egregious push/handcheck by Nelson on Noel, which is basically what caused him to lose the ball. What a load of crap.

We analyze here cases of turnovers: we have a  turnover when your team has the ball, and you lose it to the other team. A turnover can come in the form of a stolen pass, a pass that you throw out of bounds, it can be where they steal the ball away from your dribbler, it can be where you have a player stand in the paint for over three seconds, etc.
